Design research portfolio


In Term 1 workshops you will work on three small design projects:

  • Book/Record cover
  • Logo
  • Poster


Your Design Research Portfolio will consist of the completed designs for these small projects as well as any sketches, design experiments or research material that went into their generation.


Additionally, you should annotate your work describing the rationale for its development – for example, what it was that you were trying to achieve and how your ideas worked out onscreen. 


Your portfolio may be submitted either in digital format (online/CD) or as a portfolio booklet or a mix of both media.


Your portfolio should demonstrate:


  • The ability to produce designs which successfully apply general rules of graphic design and typography
  • The ability to describe a rationale for your design decisions with reference to design theory and typography

SESSION ACTIVITY: MAKING AN ALBUM COVER USING PHOTOSHOP

In the first session myself and the class was introduced to the module New Media: Design and Production.  The first task was learning how to make a mock up album cover using the software photoshop.  Adobe Photoshop is a raster graphics editor developed and published by Adobe Inc. for Windows and macOS.  I have had previous experience using the software which meant that I was able to complete the task easier. The task made us choose a random article name and quote generated and create an album cover design from it. Which means finding relevant images for the album.  The name that I generated was Raven and the quote was on to be scared  I was introduced to the website Pexel. which is a website that provide free stock photos.
